23 Apr Profile of an ideal candidate
Companies are looking for ideal candidates, candidates for ideal companies. One of the challenges of human resource managers is to match the expectations of a company that wants to hire a candidate who contributes productivity and a candidate who expects a good income and a balance between work and leisure.
Productivity
One of the key issues related to productivity is what makes some groups more prosperous and more productive than others. This question was studied by a team from MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). They tested hundreds of volunteers, divided them into groups, and gave them a chance to solve some rather difficult problems.
The most successful groups were not those where they had one or two people with a spectacularly high intelligence coefficient. But other common features were noticed. Under one successful team they showed a high degree of mutual social sensitivity, that is, the members expressed mutual empathy. Under two, successful groups gave approximately equal space to everyone, so no voice dominated, but there were no bugs.
And under three, in more successful groups there were more women. It is assumed that women have developed “soft skills” and empathy, which obviously affects productivity.
Proactive attitude, communication
When it comes to educating candidates, no one expects the individual to know everything, he just needs to know how to get information or to seek help when needed. Some experts believe it is possible to answer any question in 17 minutes.
However, information and knowledge exchange often does not happen spontaneously, employees are focused on their work, sometimes do not have time or just do not want to share information. Here we come to mutual interaction and the ability to establish successful communication among the team members. Some firms forbid the use of coffee cups on the tables because they want people to hang out with their coffee makers and talk to each other. The Swedes even have a special term for it.
They call such associations “the fic”, and this word has a wider meaning than a coffee break. It has the meaning of collective reconstruction, linking and networking. Companies do not have ideas, people have ideas. And what motivates people are the connections, loyalty and confidence that develop among each other.
Potential for promotion
Another of the frequently asked questions is who are the employees who have the potential for promotion. Employees who have the potential for promotion have the skills and abilities that relate to knowledge of work, strategy and finance. In other words, it refers to understanding the direction in which the company is moving, its strategies and financial goals, and clearly see its own contribution to the progress of the firm.
When we say that companies need smart, valuable, dedicated, reliable, and resilient people, we are talking about the characteristics of candidates. If such qualities combine with the ability to contribute to the company, we are talking about a candidate profile that is a desirable member of each team.
